This is supposedly my entry for this year's Valentine's Day...
So, what is it about really? First of all, what do we see? My character in tears, holding what seems to be a metallic, little pot with a rose inside, except that the rose is kinda wilting, and losing its petals. Quite a symbolism, I guess... What sort of symbolism anyway? Well, since he's my representative in fiction, then he must be as lonesome as I am, in which by far Valentine's Day has no romantic value for him whatsoever. You might be asking yourselves, if he's so lonesome, then why did he bother getting a rose anyway? Good question. There was once a time when Valentine's Day was celebrated mostly based on platonic love, and pretty much about love overall! Nowadays, it has been more limited to simply romantic lovers. Why? Could it be the fact that human beings don't care about each other as much as they used to? Is the World becoming more cruel that they're losing touch on the definition of love? Why is there more wars and terrorism than ever before? He brought the rose to give it anyone who would like to take it, simply for the love of a fellow human being. But no, he is just standing there, watching peoples hating each other; fighting each other! In fact, each people do have their own internal conflicts as well, fight amongst each other all the same. He became sad from this truth. His rose is saddened by the truth, and wilts. For the rose knows that its purpose, after being removed away from Mother Earth, has been flawed... Valentine's Day? It never bothered me, despite being lonely for a very long time. The only thing I dislike about it are the so-called loving couples who make a big deal about it! I say they are big, egoistic showoffs! Valentine's Day? It may be considered nowadays mostly for romance, but romance is something you have to ask for... and earn! Not everyone has the time to earn as much as they could ask for, but how could we call Valentine's Day the "Day of Love" if overall love, which is something that is the least to ask for, because it can always be there for you in goodness, is not being practiced as purely by so many all around as we should always believe it should? Can anyone in this room answer? Besides the philosophy, the artistic value is quite classy. I managed to lineart in routine, but the colours are a mixed media of coloured pencils and water colour. I did it this way to give it an effect of "supposed" tradition, as well as giving quite an interesting texture on topic. I do it sometimes as such when it comes to shading it the old way. I sure do have such a very unsteady hand. There's also the fact I made it look like it has such a plain background too. I kinda wanted to add the effect of lonesomeness to it. I kinda like it myself. In any case, enjoy! I sure hope you enjoyed yourselves on the Day if assuming you're of the commited ones. If not, well, let's just hope you do get one someday, but always remember the ones who truely love you, and that goes for the former group as well. |

I actually feel guilty for having forgotten that side of love - I do believe that love is not only for couples but for friends and family, and i also believe that if you want to like someone else you must like yourself first, otherwise you won't be confident. My problem was that - lack of confidence. I'm quite paranoid because I can't just ignore things; this was emphasized greatly by the rough treatment my family has given me, continues to give and will not stop to give. When you have that kind of friends, what are enemies for?
But I still have faith in people like you - I know I don't talk so often with you but you have an open mind. That allows for a greater sight than other people and that's something I like. You also give meaningful messages most of, if not all the time. That's truly awesome, Assad. Sorry if I didn't appreciate it before... I won't make the mistake again - I wouldn't want that flower wilting twice.
